If a leader could master one skill to improve bottom line results what would it be ?
A leader has to have many skills but , coaching, I think, is one of the most important. I came to that persoanl conclusion many years ago that as a leader, I had a responsibility to those in my sphere of influence [ especially those of my direct reports ] to do everything in my power, within the limits of resources to develop my team members in a way that allowed them to achieve whatever objectives they had, even if that meant losing them to another company.
The leadership skill that goes the furthest in accomplishing that, is Coaching.
Without empathy, managers cannot be Leaders
Managers have always tended to be dispassionate, logical types when it comes to decision-making. Most of them have what psychologists call a " thinking" preference, meaning that they favour a rational impersonal approach. Only a small number have a "feeling" preference, which indicates thet they place more weight on the people and relationship aspects of decisions. However a recent survey has shown that there has been an increase in the number of managers who prefer to let their feelings lead the way. Make 'wow' part of your company's everyday vocabulary. The level of exceptionable customer service is so poor today that business leaders need to get a grip of all their customer facing staff and ensure that customer service is seen as an investement NOT an expense. Customer Service is not a department, but the core value of your business for everyone to uphold. Cut out all the wordy customer surveys and ensure that just one question is asked .... what is the one thing we could have done better ?

More than 20 per cent of British workers are regarded by their bosses as completely ineffective so says a recent research article by Hay Group. The lack of engagement is causing headaches among British executives with some describing it as one of the greatest threats to thier business.Fewer than half of British employees are performing effectively at work because they are unmotivated or frustrated by their company's poor organisation.The research also highlighted that only 56 per cent of companies are giving their staff sufficient resources and support to function.....read more
