Mike Goodwin

Mike is a highly experienced and successful executive coach with senior clients and teams from across both public and private sectors. 

For the past four years Mike has been a director on the most senior national leadership development programmes for chief police officers and was himself a chief officer in Leicestershire for over eight years where he led on developing the Force’s organisational development and £15m savings strategy in anticipation of the current public service cuts.

Mike’s 30 year policing career has included some of the most demanding of operational leadership roles in both the Metropolitan Police Service and West Midlands Police. These roles included policing the riots in Brixton in the 80s; the IRA bombing campaign in London’s West End in the 90s; match day commander at both Coventry and Aston Villa FC and in 2009, at Ashwell, the commander in overall charge of policing one of the biggest prison riots nationally. Mike has also held important strategic development roles both at New Scotland Yard and with the Association of Chief Police Officers and has been influential in developing policy at the highest levels of both local and national government. 

Qualifications

Mike holds an MBA with Distinction from the University of Warwick Business School; a Certificate in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors and a Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Criminology from the University of Cambridge. Mike qualified with Distinction in executive coaching at the Oxford School of Coaching and Mentoring.

He is a founder mentor of Warwick Business School alumni and also mentors Warwick Students in Free Enterprise. (SIFE) In recognition of his contribution to public sector leadership development Mike was invited to be an Associate Fellow of Warwick Business School in 2010.

Mike is accredited and experienced in the use of the most widely used psychometric business tools to support his coaching practice such as MBTI Step 2; Hay ESCI 360; NEO Personality Instrument and the Hogan Development Survey. 

Mike is married to Alison who is a deputy head teacher in Leicestershire and has a daughter Catherine and a son Robert who are both at University.
